About Copthill

From our humble beginnings in 1969 around the kitchen table at Copthill Farm, our school has grown steadily and today, Copthill is a thriving, purpose-built independent school, catering for 300 boys and girls aged between 2 and 11. Still situated on the 350 acre farm land and under the direction of the same founding family, our unique location is innovatively used to enhance the education we offer. To this day, we have never lost that original family atmosphere, nor our founder’s deeply ingrained commitment to a truly well-rounded education.

Having developed from family farming roots, we have always had a strong emphasis on healthy food, fresh air, getting outdoors, being active and appreciating the countryside! At Copthill we are very lucky to have the farm and facilities to make this a daily reality.

Our Facilities

Pupils benefit from specialist rooms for Art, Drama, Dance, Music, Languages, ICT and Science. These are used by different year groups for lessons taught by specialist teachers. There is a spacious Hall which is used for daily Assemblies, Gymnastics, Drama Productions and Indoor Sports.

Copthill boasts many Sports Pitches used for Rugby, Football, Cricket, Athletics, Netball and Rounders and an all-weather Astro Turf used for Hockey and Tennis throughout the year.

The school is built on a working farm and has safe access to 350 acres of private land for the delivery of a wide range of outdoor activities: Woods, tracks, farm animals, fields, archaeological sites and a river, are all utilised for our pupil's continuous Outdoor Learning.

There is a Dining Room and fully staffed Kitchen providing nutritious and wholesome home cooked meals for the Copthill community.

Educational Aims

An open-door policy, providing the foundations for effective communication and co-operation between home and school.

A broad curriculum emphasising the importance of literacy and numeracy and designed to develop lifelong knowledge, skills and attitudes that allow our children to become responsible citizens, independent explorers, creative thinkers, problem solvers, team players and reflective learners.

An emphasis on using the outdoor environment to engage and inspire our pupils, developing their knowledge, skills and attitudes across the curriculum.

An excellent preparation for entrance to a wide range of state and independent secondary school.
