Music and Drama

The music department aims to stimuate all children, from those not playing any instruments to those exceptionally talented seeking future scholarships. A large proportion of pupils receive individual tuition on a range of instruments, some learning for pleasure and many others achieving above average results in music examinations.

All children are welcome to join one of the three choirs, in which all the children take part! The emphasis is always on having fun as well as learning to sing in parts and read music for those wishing to specialise further.

There are a range of recorder groups building on the tuition received by all pupils in Year 2 and many instrumental groups all led by specialist teachers. There are opportunities available to perform in the orchestra, at informal concerts, competitions, assemblies, church carol services and an annual Music Department Revue. Talented musicians can also develop their interests to higher levels, with theory lessons and extension groups. Music Scholarships are also awarded for pupils with musical potential. (see Admissions Information)

Drama is taught in many different forms throughout the school and as part of the curriculum in Years 3 and 4. There are large scale musical productions as well as class assemblies.

Many pupils also study Speech and Drama each week as an additional subject, taking part very successfully in the Peterborough Drama Festival, winning many awards. The pupils also have an option to take LAMDA examinations each summer. Other pupils take part in voluntary after school Drama clubs for fun or to develop their particular talents.
