U10A’s @ SJS

The u10’s travelled to Stamford Junior School to play in a triangular hockey tournament. The first game was a local derby between Copthill and Stamford, a good one for the boys to start with; A very strong start from the A’s saw them move the ball around both quickly and sharply between one another which led to the first goal. Very shorty after our first, we counter attacked a Stamford break with speed, and with clinical finishing Copthill were 2-0 up. Some solid defending from Ben and Aryan kept out the Stamford attacks and left our keeper with a nice relaxing afternoon. Close to the final whistle a very finely worked move came together with Henry down the right slapping a cross into the D which was finished off and resulted in Copthill’s third goal of the game. Final score 3-0.

Our second game came along shortly after the first, up against Bedford School. A few position changes were made and we got off to rocky start, immediately on the back foot with Bedford attacking well; With some scrappy defending in our D, Bedford managed to slot it past Ōrān, no chance for the keeper. Some good defending from Noah stopped Bedford from capitalising on their 1-0 lead. We continued to play sloppy hockey for the next 10 minutes until some changes were made, Dexter onto the left, Joshi down the middle and Monty up top were all huge influences on the last minute of the game as well as some words of wisdom from the coach. Something clicked in the heads of the boys and the final minute of the game saw us score 3 goals to win the game 3-1 in the dying moments. Brilliant Teamwork to get back from 1-0 down!

We had a lengthy wait until our third game, this allowed the boys to replenish their energy through snacks on offer by Stamford. Our third game was against Leicester Grammar Junior School. Another mix up to the line up for this game but we came out the starting blocks like we meant business, instantly onto the front foot and with the ball in the back of the net by Joshi we thought we were on fire, sadly Joshi was outside the D, no goal. Heads still high and a very tough performance by Adam Bell in the middle of the park led to the ball falling in the D and this time a legal goal was scored. Then with Milo playing a jack of all trades role in the team he was everywhere on the pitch, it worked out extremely well, covering defenders when they were out of position but also pushing forward in attack, it was his work rate that led to the second goal with a nice finish from Dexter. An outstanding team performance saw us finish the game with a 4-0 win.

3 games, 3 wins, 10 goals scored and 1 conceded. An Outstanding Team performance in this tournament, everybody working well together and the work rate on the pitch was very pleasing to see! A big well done to the boys, thoroughly deserved all 3 wins!
