This week in Year 2 we have started our new topic, ‘Inter-Nation Media Station’. We will be looking at how news and messages are shared around the world and the country and hopefully have a go at creating our own news bulletin, through TV, radio and in the newspaper. To start with, we looked at different ways messages were sent in the past, smoke signals, pigeons, runners and through images looking more closely at morse code and the semaphore alphabet. We decoded messages and even had a go at creating our own code and messages using smarties and skittles! The children thoroughly enjoyed this, especially using flags and the semaphore alphabet to spell out their names. Can you use the morse code aphabet to help you decode the title of this blog?

With it being World Book Day this week, we used this as a theme for our Forest School session. After playing an amazing group game of Vanish, the children got creative and made wooden spoon characters, then in their groups they made up and acted out a story. They did such a great job and showed great team work, this was also apparent in their games lesson earlier in the week.

The rest of the week included making daffodils and welsh flags in art to celebrat St David’s Day and mesauring using metre sticks in maths. Miss Gardner’s group measured how far they could throw a bean bag, another great example of teamwork this week. Well done everyone 🙂
