Celebrating

This week we have been celebrating Chinese Lunar New Year. The children have learnt about how the years were named after animals and they have been able to recreate the story using stick puppets and props in the play trays. There have been examples of Chinese writing for the children to explore and they have been able to mix, stir and scoop rice and noodles using different sized utensils. The children have also been joining in with some themed crafts, making dragon puppets as well as dragon hand prints. The children were shown some shapes and then encouraged to decorate a paper lantern with red and gold shapes. The children have also watched some short clips of celebrations and parades, including dragon dances. Everyone loved joining in with some dragon dances, taking it in turns to wear the different dragon heads and be the leader.
