“If you can dream, you can do it”

Walt Disney has been our focus this week in Year 2. The children really enjoyed learning about his life and what he had been through before he created Disney as we know it today. We learned that, even if there are setbacks in your life and dreams, you should not and do not have to give up on them. Knock backs are tricky but “if you can dream, you can do it”. This was one of Walt Disney’s most famous quotes that the children were taught about and what it means. One of their favourite things that they learned about whilst researching Walt Disney, is that Mickey Mouse was created whilst Walt was on a long train journey across America. He started to draw and Mickey was born! (Although, not originally called Mickey, he was first named Mortimer but Walt’s wife suggested Mickey instead!). This lead to lots of artwork and fun to be had with Mickey and Minnie Mouse which have gone up on display in the Year 2 corridors, which look fab. Well done all!

In Forest School this week Mrs Underwood and Mrs Muxlow were talking to 2U about migration and hibernation – they spent their lesson bird watching and identifying birds as well as building hedgehog houses /shelters. As for 2G, they were creating their own cartoon characters puppets and having a go at some sewing.

We are loving the maths games that are starting to come in, a multiplication game for Mrs Underwood’s maths set and a number bond maths game for Miss Gardner’s. We look forward to seeing and playing more as they are brought in. We would really like to see everyone complete this independent explorer homework to help consolidate their learning and understanding of multiplication and number bonds. We asked that your child create a maths game/board game about multiplication (Mrs Underwood’s maths group) or number bonds to 20 (Miss Gardner’s maths group) making sure that they understand the rules and answers so that they can go on and teach it to Year 1 pupils. This week both groups have been learning about 2D and 3D shape, which involved shape bingo and shape hunts.
