Imagination station!

This week in Year 2 we have thoroughly enjoyed our English topic of fantasy stories. We are going to be writing our very own fantasy story in the next few weeks so have been learning how to plan a story properly and then follow that plan to bring the story to life!

We were introduced to a story mountain, which is a really useful and visual tool that helps us to break up a story into five sections; the opening – build up – dilemma – resolution – ending. We listened to the story of the Gruffalo and had to work together to break the story up into these sections. The opening introduces the characters and the setting. The build up is when things start to happen leading up to the problem/dilemma, the climax of the story – the tip of the story mountain. This is then followed by the resolution where the problem is ‘fixed’/resolved and then the ending is when the story wraps up and comes to end.

In forest school we continued the theme of fantasy stories and we made our own fantasy creatures up in the woods.

In mathematics this week we have been looking at 2D and 3D shape. Reminding ourselves of the properties for both and venturing out of the classroom on a hunt for 3D shapes around the school.
