This week the children listened to the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. The children joined in with the story using their hands to stretch up tall like the beanstalk. They stamped their feet like a giant and then pretended to use an axe to cut down the beanstalk so the giant had to stay up in the castle in the clouds. We also talked about how Jack should not have taken anything from the castle without asking the giant first! The children were then able to recall the story by playing with the themed play tray and in the castle role play area. We linked the story to our Read Write Inc sound /c/ with some cloud and castle themed activities. A play tray was filled with shaving foam clouds for the children to explore and mark make in. The Pre School children were encouraged to ‘curl around the caterpillar’ and form the letter c in the shaving foam as part of their Read Write Inc session.
