On Monday 30th March 2020 we held a small family cremation service for John Teesdale Snr.
Leaving from The Charters, John journeyed through Uffington, passing by Copthill School and into Copthill Farm one final time, before continuing to the South Lincolnshire Crematorium at Surfleet. John was a true “local”, having spent his whole life living and working in the Parish of Uffington. A small measure of his standing in the community was gauged by the many friends, neighbours, residents of Uffington and school colleagues who turned out on that cold morning, to line the roads and say their own goodbyes. Mum, and all of us travelling that day, were overwhelmed by that response, which made the first part of the day such a warm, emotional and poignant moment for us all. A heartfelt thank you to all those who took the time to say farewell, your presence was a huge comfort to us, and we would like to think that Dad would have been surprised, but definitely appreciative, to be the centre of such attention!
The short, intimate, family service that followed, led by Father Aran Beesley, was a fitting way for us to say our goodbyes and show our love for a life well lived. We do hope that we can eventually come together, in happier times, to celebrate Dad’s life at St Michael and All Angels Church, Uffington, his final resting place. In the meantime please can we thank you again for the many kind thoughts, prayers and letters of condolence we have received at this sad time. Our thanks also to Father Beesley and Andrew Woodhouse, Funeral Directors.
Whilst he will always be in our memories, we now turn our thoughts to all those who have been such a support to the family over the last few weeks at this time of worry and uncertainty.
With our love and best wishes.
