We have had another action-packed week and the onset of the autumnal weather has not detracted from our enjoyment of the outdoor adventures. We have spent time admiring autumn changes and collecting natural materials that we have studied, drawn and used to make environmental art creations outside. We have met a special character from a book called ‘Percy the Park Keeper’. In the most recent story, Percy was finding and planting acorns to grow into oak trees and in true Percy the Park Keeper style we decided to do exactly the same in our Forest School sessions.
The letter sounds o, c, k, u and b have caused great hilarity. Our ‘o’ activities involved making paint rolling patterns with oranges, needless to say, the cleaning staff were a bit puzzled by the orange paint trails that appeared that night all over the classroom floor from escapee oranges!
The children were fascinated by ‘c’ and ‘k’ as they make the same sound both together and apart! One child stated that it was like magic! We have made curly caterpillars with beads and decorative kites.
For once, we were pleased to see the rain on Thursday as we performed activities for the letter sound ‘u’ for umbrella. Jumping in puddles in our wellies at playtime was particularly good fun and the children made some fantastic multicoloured umbrellas. Boot printing to celebrate the letter sound ‘b’ was really funny and took a while for the grown ups to clear up!
Maths has been all about counting, ordering and making sets of different objects. We are getting really good at sequencing and identifying numerals!
PE continues to be energetic and fun. This week’s lessons involved moving in as many different ways as we could: hopping, skipping, lunging, jumping and running. Our sports teachers were very proud.
