We believe that every pupil should have the chance to shine. As a result we aim for high standards in our performing arts, but what our pupils gain from taking part is far more valuable. Through music, drama and dance they experience teamwork, a sense of achievement and an immense joy and freedom of being given the opportunity to express themselves.
The Music department aims to stimulate all pupils, from those not playing any instruments, to those exceptionally talented seeking future scholarships. A large proportion of pupils receive individual tuition on a range of instruments, some learning for pleasure and many others achieving above average results in music examinations.
There are opportunities available to perform at informal concerts, competitions, assemblies, church carol services and an annual music department revue. Talented musicians can develop their interests to higher levels, with theory lessons and extension groups. Music scholarships are awarded for pupils with musical potential.
Drama is taught in many different forms throughout the school. Productions range from large scale musicals, such as ‘Guys and Dolls’, through to class assemblies.
Over 50 pupils study speech and drama as an additional subject, achieving excellent results in the annual Peterborough Drama Festival. Weekly sessions are designed to encourage pupils to build on their self-confidence, enjoy exploring their individual creative skills, develop their communication skills and to learn to work effectively as part of a team.
Each Summer, pupils are encouraged to take the LAMDA examination. We believe the experience is not only very enjoyable but extremely worthwhile in equipping pupils of all ages and abilities with essential skills for modern life.
Alongside our music and drama timetables, we run a varied extracurricular programme. Clubs and activities offer new experiences and aim to develop skills taught in curriculum time to a higher level.
Copthill offers ballet, tap and modern, adult tap and a dance club. Parents are invited to watch classes each term.
We work with The Royal Academy of Dance syllabus which offers an internationally recognised portfolio of examinations and assessments designed to encourage, motivate and reward pupils of all ages and abilities. It has a progressive structure for learning and achievement in dance.

|The school has a close association with the Welland School of Dancing in Stamford.
