Spring has sprung!

Another busy week in Year 2, we have been taking part in a variety of different activities across the timetable, finishing the week with a very excitable Red Nose Day! With the lovely spring weather, we have been able to take our learning outside and enjoy our lessons out in the sunshine.

At the beginning of the week we had a visit from Neil who came and delivered a workshop to us all about ‘friendship and emotions’. It was super helpful for us to understand our feelings and how we should be empathetic to our friends and what makes a good friend. We looked at the characters from the movie Inside Out to help us refer to our emotions and how they can make us feel and behave.

We continued with our studies of 2D and 3D shape this week. Miss Gardner took her group out on a 3D shape hunt around school and later looked at repeated patterns using 3D shapes. Mrs Underwood’s class were looking closely at the properties of 3D shapes. In English the children worked as a class to create a class fantasy story. At the beginning of the week they were shown a picture and from that they planned a story onto a story mountain, giving it an opening, build up, dilemma, resolution and ending and later in the week used their plan to create a story. They used the notes from their planned and developed them into detailed sentences. Such a great story! Well done all!

In art they continued to look at colour mixing and at how Lowry only used 5 colours to create his artwork. We are going to bear this in mind when it comes to us creating a piece of work in the style of Lowry, over the next few weeks. We hope to put our piece up on display so keep your eyes peeled!

Red Nose day at the end of the week meant that we could come in to school in mismatched outfits to help raise money for comic relief. The children looked fantastic and had a great day!
