Team work makes the dream work

A busy second week back for the Year 2 classes this week and the theme of the week seemed to follow the lines of teamwork. We have continued with measurement in maths and took our learning outdoors again, not for the weather this time, but for the space! We were learning how to measure in metres so needed lots of space to throw beanbags and measure the distance of our throws. It was important for us to work in teams to do this accurately using metre sticks and all of the children did a fantastic job.

As our new topic is ‘Where the wild things are’ we made sure that we knew the different animals groups and classifications, and with an understanding of mammals, amphibians, fish, reptiles, birds and insects the children were then able to sort different animals into their correct groups. Another great example of teamwork and collaboration.

Some information for you about the term ahead; we are very excited to announce that the Year 2’s will be going on another school trip to Hamerton Zoo. More information will be sent out nearer the time, but it is safe to say that the children are very excited already (both for the animals and for their packed lunches!!) As for this term’s independent learner homework, we would like the children to make an animal habitat of their choice (see examples below) and if you have pets at home, we would love the children to make a video presentation about their pet, using some of the things that they have learned in their creative curriculum lessons to share information about them. Things like their diet, how to look after them, their animal group, name and things that they like/don’t like. The easiest way to do these would be on Seesaw, there is an option to upload a video on to their profiles.
