The Snail and the Whale!

World Book Day was tremendous fun! We decided to learn all about the story of “The Snail and the Whale” by Julia Donaldson. We were very lucky to find some hibernating snails that didn’t mind waking up after their long winter’s sleep with the promise of lettuce! We studied them carefully and watched them slip and slide across Perspex. We learnt about the different parts of the snails and how they didn’t have bones and skeletons like us but a strong muscular foot.

We thought up some adjectives for our snails and decorated collage pictures with camouflage colours. We also made a huge map showing the journey that the snail made with the whale around the world.

We made up our own imaginary sea creatures with different features to help them survive in their watery habitats. We also made some camouflage masks that could be used to hide under the sea if we were a fish. Another successful, happy week!
