Welcome to Reception!

The time has flown this week with two happy, settled Reception classes. Time really does fly when you are having fun!

Everyone has fitted so smoothly into the Reception routine and have been enjoying our facilities and new toys. We have had lots of time to get to know one another and gently explored our classrooms and school grounds in this glorious weather.

Our topic this half term is called “Under the Sea” and we will be exploring the oceans across the globe and the different forms of sea life. We will be learning about the different types of animals and using them as a stimulus for our art, craft and music lessons.

We will be following the Read, Write, Inc scheme for learning our phonics sounds and blending simple words together with a little help from “Fred the Frog”. Other literacy lessons will be explored using some “Under the Sea” books, poems and songs. We will be using “Commotion in the Ocean” and “The Snail and the Whale” to name but a few.

We are following the “White Rose Maths” scheme to learn our mathematics and to begin with we will be finding out about the children’s current mathematical knowledge. We will then build upon their prior learning and fill in any gaps and clear up misconceptions in a fun, practical and entertaining way!
