Term Dates / Calendar

Welcome to Year 2!

Everyone has settled back into the routine of school really well and have taken the transition up to Year 2 in their stride. For the first half of term our topic is ‘Pirates’, which the children are very excited about. We have spent this first week reading, and listening to, an assortment of pirate stories, using our knowledge of ‘characters’, ‘settings’ and ‘props’ from Year 1 and applying it to our new focus book in English – The Night Pirates. Next, the children will be looking at different ways to sequence the story. In maths, we have been recapping number and recognising the place value of digits in numbers to 100. We also incorporated our new pirate topic into Forest School this week, and into our art lessons where we transformed ourselves into pirates! What a busy week it is has been!

Swimming is due to start next Friday (17th) but that did not stop us practising the routine so that we are prepped and ready to go next week. The children also brushed up on their understanding of poolside safety and really impressed us with the prior knowledge.

Enjoy a ‘spelling free’ weekend this weekend! As of Monday next week, the children will be given new spellings via Readiwriter and will be tested on them the following Monday. One of the perks of Year 2 is salad bar lunches and the choice of a jacket potato, please can we remind you (and your child) that they can choose one of these options for one day of the week, so one jacket potato day and one salad bar day, the remaining will be hot meals. If you would like to ‘plan ahead’ with your child, can we suggest that you have a look at the menu together over the weekend in preparation for next week.

One final reminder is that clubs start on Monday as does modern dance, tap (Monday) and ballet (Thursday).
