Where’s Wally?!

You will have notice that pencil cases have come home with your son or daughter today, this is because we have quite a few saying that they don’t have the right equipment for lessons. Please may we ask that pencil cases are stocked up over the weekend with the necessities – pencils (more than 1), a rubber, glue, a pencil sharpener, scissors and colouring pencils. Felt tips, highlighters and coloured gel pens aren’t a necessity.

Thursday was World Book Day this week and we decided it would be fun to decorate our class doors. The children in Year 2 often get lost in a Where’s Wally book during their library time, and work together in small groups or pairs to find him and his friends, so we thought it would be fun to have a Where’s Wally themed door. However there was a slight difference, instead of finding Wally on our door, we did it so the WHOLE SCHOOL (including staff) had to find themselves. Everyone really enjoyed pausing at the door to have a hunt for themselves. Mrs Schofield and Mrs Teesdale were particularly tricky to find! The children in Year 2 helped to make the large Wally cut out in their art lessons this week and collaborated well to show good teamwork.

We also took the children on a walk around the school grounds, so that they could point out and make a note of the different kind of human geographical features and the physical geographical features that are on the Copthill school site, linking to our topic of Neighbourhood Watch. They were quick to gain an understanding of each one and were able to explain the difference between the two. Even though it was miserable weather for our walks, the children still had big smiles on their faces. With this knowledge of human and physical features, it will help the children to create their independent explorer homework of a tourist guide for a local attraction (please see bulletin or ask staff for more information).
