All the girls out at Oakham

All the girls out at Oakham, Copthill School

What a brilliant fixture at Oakham for the D team. The girls played really well and worked hard on making sure they all worked  as a team. We managed to make some space so we weren’t all bunched together which created more opportunity for some goals! Miss Needham

The Copthill C team put in an enthusiastic and determined performance against girls from older yeargroups, with some brilliant passing up the pitch. Mrs Underwood was over the moon with the way that our goal was scored. The final result of 4-1 however, does not reflect the girls enthusiasm and commitment to the game. Well done! Mrs Underwood.

Copthill A team had a really strong start against Brooke Priory. We held our shape and let the ball cover the space. Isla had a huge number of wonderful shots and came away with a confident hat-trick. Felicity put herself in a wonderful spot on the post and managed to covert a strong cross into a goal. Sophie distributed well in the centre and Emma quickly took control of any Brooke attacks. Felicity was awarded player of the match by Brooke.

We then met the older Oakham girls and the hockey was so even it was wonderful to watch. Bells was very busy in goal and she made multiple confident saves. She kept a clean sheet, but so too did the Oakham goalie. We placed many strong shots on the goal and time after time she saved them. Annabel had some super running and Lottie really developed as a defender in this game. The game ended 0-0 but it was such an enjoyable game to watch with some wonderful hockey. Bells was awarded player of the match by Oakham. Mrs A

Copthill B started brightly in their match against Oakham, not daunted by the age gap in front of them. Some early forays into their D were repelled and we soon found ourselves on the receiving end of fast counter-attacking play. In goal, Izzie became the busiest player on the pitch dominating her area and saving shot after shot. Gradually our defence became more confident in their roles, Maisie and Thea working well in partnership. Suddenly our much practiced passing triangles became evident in the midfield, Diya holding the centre and creating space. Romily doesn’t need too many invitations to score, and soon we had a goal back with a fine solo drive and shot. With Olivia and Erin working tirelessly in the midfield, the team were spurred on by fresh legs in the form of Felicity and Ella. Again Romily came up trumps with her second, and the game ended as a very creditable draw. Our second game against a stronger Oakham team saw Copthill under greater pressure from the start. Despite our best efforts we conceded goals, but to our credit kept competing with determination and skill to the end. By the last 5 minutes the game was much more even. We were making chances in front of goal, and once again Romily delivered after some lovely passing play through the midfield. Well done to all the girls. A fantastic effort on the pitch and a well deserved match tea! Very proud of you today. Nick T
