Copthill A B Hockey v Witham Hall

The Copthill A Team made the short journey to Witham Hall, and started the game as they finished last week, with quick passing and long periods of possession. Chances were made, but once again, they weren’t being converted, so it was perhaps inevitable that Witham’s counter attacking play would eventually break the deadlock. What wasn’t in the boys script was a quick second goal from Witham, after which the pressure started to tell on the Copthill faces. However, they stuck to their task with their usual energy, and were rewarded by a fine strike from Aurion just before half time. 2-1 at the break, all to play for.

Again we started the second half brightly, but Witham were playing well as a team, moving the ball faster, finding space, and getting stronger. They were teaching us a hard lesson, doing to us what we had been doing to other teams all term. By the time their third well worked team goal went in we had become a group of hard working individuals; more about solo carries and speculative strikes, less about our simple fast passing hockey, and so the hole we were in became ever deeper. It’s totally understandable and extremely difficult to resist in the moment, it just wasn’t our best day! So, we cheered ourselves up with the team photo, had a lovely match tea and will learn from the experience. Well done boys, we will come back stronger!

The Copthill B’s played well as a team. We were sharp in attack and quickly snuffed out the opposition attacks. Movement off the ball was excellent, and the whole team was positive and showed great sportsmanship. In the next game, we will need to mark in defence more closely. A win of 1-6 was well deserved!
