Djembe time!

In music the Year 6’s are learning how to play the African drums, known as a djembe. 3 weeks in and they have mastered the bass stroke, tone stroke and the slap stroke – this one is painful and will come more naturally with practise!

This week we were introduced to the flam stroke, involving both hands. A sound that is made by the hands which is similar to a drum roll. We then learned that the flam stroke can be played as a bass flam, a tone flam and a slap flam. They have shown a super understanding and have followed rhythms really well. We can’t wait to see what next week brings!
