Doyouthinkhesaurus?!

Another fun-dinosaur-filled week this week for us all in Year 2, continuing with our learning of non-fiction texts and fully understanding what all the features do and how they help us to find specific information. Last week was all about captions, pictures, paragraphs and sub-headings, this week has been about labels, adjectives and how to use an index. For this we needed to make sure we had a good knowledge of the alphabet and understanding how to put words and read words into alphabetical order.

In maths this week there has been lots of problem solving across both groups, the children are working really hard and to show off their learning we would like the children to create a maths game for their independent explorer homework for this half term, this is a compulsory piece of homework for all children to complete. We would like the children to design and create a game that the children of Year 1 can play and understand to help with their learning of number bonds to 20 (Miss Gardner’s maths group) or multiplication (Mrs Underwood’s maths group). The children need to apply their knowledge and understanding of these topics and make sure that the rules are easy to follow. They will then take these games down to a Year 1 maths lesson and become the teacher, so they need to be able to understand the rules of their game so that it can be taught and understood easily.

More dinosaur activities took place in forest school this week, the children are now constantly on the hunt for fossils which is fantastic! In art, the infamous ‘doyouthinkhesaurus’ dinosaur returned to our classrooms, each child used their knowledge of mixing colours to blend a striking dinosaur eye. The children used chalk to create their dinosaur eyes and were very sensible when it came to using the setting spray so that their work didn’t smudge. They have been put up on display in the classrooms and the displays look amazing – we are constantly being watched!!

Everyone has really enjoyed their playtimes this week, when we’ve been able to dodge the rain and enjoy some of that autumnal sunshine! And a big thank you and well done for the whole of Year 2 who were very respectful during the Remembrance Day assembly on Friday, they wore their poppies with pride and showed their respect during the 2 minute silence seriously and sensibly. Also, a week of celebrations this week, lots of children making it onto the recognition boards and a whole load of house points earned, what a busy week of achievements!
