Let there be light!

We are working so hard in Year 2, another week, another new topic! Our new topic is called ‘Zero-to-Hero’ and each week we are learning about someone who has influenced, impacted or inspired our lives and the world around us. First up – Thomas Edison. The children in Year 2 have been learning all about Thomas Edison and his inventions throughout English, Creative Curriculum, Art and Forest School lessons and have crammed so much in.

They are seriously clued up on his life after having spent time using Chromebooks to investigate his life further, sitting around the fire in Forest School hearing about his inventions and using torches to create shadow art in our art lessons. The children have really enjoyed it and have asked some great questions that have provided us with lots of investigation and discussion opportunities, they have been keen to find out more about our first famous person focus. Well done everyone!

On Friday we had a fun-filled day celebrating and raising money for Children in Need, the children looked fab in their own clothes – some even donning Pudsey ears or clothing – and enjoyed the stalls and games that were put on by the Year 5s at breaktime. Later in the day they teamed up with Year 4 to go on a walk and talk through the school grounds where the children came across posters with open questions allowing them to have discussions with their buddies as they walked. A great opportunity to open up to their friends and to make new relationships with children in other year groups.
