This week we are looking at the /o/ sound in Read Write Inc. The children have joined in bouncing the sound and taking turns in forming the letter on the white board. Fred Frog sounded out some cvc words with the /o/ sound in for the children to try and blend together. Afterwards, to help reinforce the sound, the children were able to explore some oranges. We used child safety knives to cut the oranges in half and we talked about the smell and the feel of the oranges. The children were then able to squeeze the oranges, helping to strengthen their hand muscles. Everyone thought this was lots of fun! We had another go at bouncing the /o/ sound whilst squeezing the oranges.
