Pirate portraits and port holes

This week saw Year 2 take part in an election for school council, making pirate portraits in the woods, demonstrating an understanding of place value in maths and telling the difference between characters, settings and props in English. We also welcomed 3 new additions to the classrooms – Respectful bear, Responsible bear and Reflective bear – the children made them feel very welcome.

In English we were introduced to our new story called The Night Pirates – the children thoroughly enjoyed it and had a lot of fun sequencing the story through drawings and ordering pictures and writing sentences to accompany the pictures. We also used this opportunity to learn the difference between characters, settings and props. We used actions to help us remember, which the children were able to use when we read through the story. The children have also been practising their handwriting this week.

In maths we have been looking at place value, sharing our understanding of tens and ones in 2 digit numbers and reminding ourselves of number bonds to 10 and 20.

In art this week we made pirate portholes. We imagined what landscape we might see if we were to look out of a pirate ship porthole, the children imagined seeing dolphins, mermaids, desert islands and even the kraken!

Voting time for this years school council members.
