Year 3’s topic in music this term is ‘All about music’. Over the last few weeks they have been learning about call & response, last week focusing on call & response in songs. They really enjoyed singing Boom-chicka-boom and getting into character with different accents. This week, it was all about call & response with instruments. For this to go well, the children needed to listen carefully to each other and to have a good understanding of rhythm.
They built up the song as they went along, first with claps, then adding a stamp on ever first beat, followed by chanting. They did a really great job. Then we replaced the stamp and the chant with drums and triangles and were able to create a fantastic call & response rhythm.
