Year 2 Diary Entry: Part 2

Continuing with our topic of ‘famous people’, this week we have been learning all about a man called Louis Braille. We are learning about him because he created an alphabet for blind people, this was called Braille. It was a bumpy code that blind people would feel to read. Louis Braille became blind after a terrible accident when he was 3. He poked himself in the eye with a tool from his fathers workshop. He died 2 days after his 43rd birthday and he never knew that his alphabet was ever used by blind people, which is very sad.

This week we have made a fact file about Louis Braille and learned how to read and write in braille. Can you tell who’s work this is? Use the braille alphabet to help you!

In art we had to imagine what it would be like to create art if you could not see. We worked in partners, one person was blindfolded and had to draw what the other person drew on their back. It was really hard! The results were interesting! It made us use our other senses more as we could not see what we were drawing.

In maths we have been learning times tables and arrays. An array is when you share numbers into groups and there are rows and columns. You times the number in the group by the number of groups.

Please can we ask that children learn how to tie their ties, this is your challenge for the week. Also, spellings should be learnt over the course of the week, a little bit of practise every day will help you learn them and get 10 out of 10!
