Year5 girls complete their season on a high

Year5 girls complete their season on a high, Copthill School

All of Year 5 stepped up to represent Copthill U11 against St Peter’s Kettering.
Playing as two teams, at home, with Izzie in goal for both matches, the girls started quickly, scoring within the first minute. The game evened up, with both sides developing their attacking hockey to reach 2-2 at half time. Our midfield and forward combinations changed regularly, with Darcy and Cecil both going close. Keeping a consistently strong defence in Lily, Francesca and Izzie allowed for plenty of energetic midfield play from Annabelle and Eva, who created lots of chances. Those chances that fell to Ella, and her powerful shots, were telling. Well done girls for great hockey and a very creditable 4-3 win!
The following match also started brightly, the girls tasked with holding their positions and moving the ball fluently. Maisie, Esme and Izzie were again very assured in defence, and our midfield of Erin Flo and Milla enthusiastic in their running, leaving Felicity almost everywhere up front! The early goals to Copthill were set up by determined and skilful individual runs, but it wasn’t until the second half, when we re-focused on our passing game, that the game really came alive. Amelia, having moved to centre-mid, showed how effective a well judged pass can be. Suddenly we were all finding space, making runs, moving and passing. Not unsurprisingly the goals accumulated, and the game finished with our sixth. Well done girls for a great display of hockey, showing how far you have progressed this term!
